Memories

It has taken a while but today I was able to look through the responses about Dan from his funeral and memorial. People were asked to write about their favourite memory of Dan, the thing they liked most about him and the thing that drove them crazy about him. I have included below some of the comments people wrote.

Fondest memories of Dan:

"When Dan first came to Walkford with J and we ran down the corn fields. Great friends."

"I remember being at a party with Dan and watching him dance like crazy when 'I Predict a Riot' by the Kaiser Chiefs was playing."

"Playing his guitar down the beach, singing with me - entertaining everybody - or singing the Sex Bomb on kareoke"

"Patiently sitting and playing with children. He always had time for other people."

"Dan singing the Blue Brothers intro at a gig that the band I was in played."

"To some you were a friend, to others a relative, but to me you were the coolest ever Love Josh"

"Meeting Dan for the first time in the Emporium. We were struck by how he talked to us - not as if we were old boring ----s!"

"When he was born he was my first Grandson"

"Me, Ciara and Dan playing basket ball in the garden in the snow"

"The sexiest guy in the village..Yum!"

"Wacky phone conversations and lovely chats in the street in Cromarty....making me late for work"

"Daniel used to babysit me. My earliest memory of him is playing a competitive game against him and winning (he let us win)."

"Dan babysitting for me - doing a great job looking after the kids but setting fire to the cooker because he forgot he had put toast on and then burning a hole in my floor when he dropped the flaming grill pan down!"

"Dan and Claire at an early age in back garden trying to climb up on to the window box full of dirt; wrenching the whole thing off the wall and tipping the contents on Jarrod and Ade who werehappily playing underneath it. Dan informed his Mum when he got home that 'Aunty Anne had a mental'"

Things you liked most about Dan:

"He was amazing with kids"

"Great (wierd) sense of humour"

"His jokes"

"His kindness and courtesy to me - his Nan"

"Just his lovely manner. Who would want more!"

"His amazing postivity about everything"

"He rarely got angry and always seemed calm"

"The fact that he just got on with things and never let things get him down. Brilliant with children especially my grandchildren"

"His ability to always be positive, his creativeness, his zest for life! His knid loving nature - my friend"

"His easy-going nature and the way that everything he was drawing (i.e. a doodle) turned in to a piece of art. Also he would always listen to other people's problems, never complaining about his own"

Things about Dan that drove you crazy:

"He never had time for himself"

"Bearing in mind that he spent two years living at my house, the list could be endless! Dan was messy, untidy, played D.V.D.'s too loud in the early hours of morning and hated getting up early! What I'd give to have that back."

"Timekeeping....aghh!"

"He's loads better at playing the bass than me!"

"Untidyness"

"Grumpy first thing - which for Dan was any time before 4.00 pm!"

"He was unhurriable - probably a star quality unless you were waiting for him"
