Stories of Dan

You know you've got a favourite story about Dan.  In the last few days I've heard so many so... let's hear them.  Just send them to me at: dave@plexusmedia.co.uk and I'll add them to the site (almost anything considered).

A Poem by Sarah (step sister)

Have you ever smelt stale, parmesan cheese?
I’m telling you it’s enough to make you wheeze,
Stuck in our house, was this foosty stench,
That truly could make you wrench,
The smell, it was decided by my mother,
Was caused by the feet of my eldest brother,
Now Dan protested that it wasn’t his feet,
But we all blamed him for over a week,
So you can imagine his delight, when he finally found,
Under the couch, this small cheesy mound.

I have so many funny memories, about my brother Dan,
He truly could be a hilarious man,
From the busy book diaries, that he has written,
To the unforgettable tale of the Bonsai kitten,
The most generous big brother, then the most rotten,
It’s impossible that Daniel will ever be forgotten.

Once my big brother Dan, built us a machine,
But it was far from normal, caz this machine was mean,
The biggest and the best, go-cart around,
All made from bits and pieces, my brother had found,
Grabbing bits from peoples garden, and risking a row,
To create the machine that’s still a legend now.

We have so many photos, to go with this story,
And so many more, accounting his falls and glory,
Photos and clothes are all we’re left to touch,
But he left us so much more, so massively much,
From the stories that he told,
To the stories we hold,
He’ll never really leave; he’ll always be about,
Because we’ll all be thinking of him, everyday without a doubt,
The only thing left, that we can do,
Is say goodbye Dan, we all love you

Ciara's Bonsai Kitten

Ciara had a school project about cruelty to animals. She had received a chain email about some Bonsai kittens and she looked it up on the web. The site had pictures of misshapen kittens and explained the process of growing kittens in jars to create kittens of a specific shape. The website asked for people to sign up to order a Bonsai kitten. Ciara spent weeks creating a project about the Bonsai kittens and how cruel it was.  Unfortunately the day the project was due Ciara proudly showed Daniel her finished master piece only to have him laugh out loud. The kittens were perfect oblongs - clearly computer generated photos. Daniel was without mercy in his teasing about Ciara's naivity, but did go out and buy  a lovely present of a toy kitten in a jar for Ciara.  Years later any conversation around cats, jars or just stupidity would always lead to Daniel retelling the story of the Bonsai Kitten.

From Isla Hill

"I have so many very very funny memories of Daniel that when I think of him I can't help laughing. He was so kind to us growing up, with so much more tolerance than any of the other 'big kids'. He used to put up with so much nonsense from us when we were girls (and we were very silly) with such good humour. He taught me and Sarah all we know about 'being cool'. When he had his long hair he would let us sit round him about 4 at a time and 'style' it. The Crom kids have always been so close, but it has been really nice hearing what people have said about him.
